My new short story is out today! The Proposal – part of Three is Not a Crowd, the new anthology by Wayward Ink Press.
I will be reviewing the rest of the short stories in a few days time, but for now, here’s mine!
Malcolm has a decision to make.
His two best friends, Jack and Thomas, have just given him a very interesting proposal to mull over.
His mind, his heart, and his Little Malcolm need to agree.
The decision could change his life forever…
MALCOLM LIES flat on his back, his hands clutched over his head, pressed to the pillow. He has a lot on his mind. His two best friends have, just moments ago, given him something to think about, an interesting proposal. He really isn’t sure what to do. His mind is saying one thing, his heart, something else, and his libido, okay his dick, his Little Malcolm, well, it’s trying to confuse the whole issue. That’s what penises do well, right? Malcolm needs to think. His mind is racing through past events. He can’t believe he is in this conundrum. His roommates, Jack and Thomas, have just finished asking him a very serious question. One that just by the asking has changed their relationship forever. They are his best friends. Malcolm met Jack and Thomas three years ago at a billiards bar. He was single then, but just single. Jack and Thomas had been together for a year at that point. Both were gorgeous, sexy, and very flirtatious. Malcolm was flattered that two good-looking guys, who were obviously into each other, would even bother with him.
Thomas, the more assertive of the two, even asked Malcolm to go home with them. Malcolm had been sorely tempted. His Little Malcolm was saying, “Yes!” His mind and heart were saying, “No.” He had done the casual thing before. It didn’t really work out. Therefore, even though he was extremely attracted to both men, he had smiled and politely declined. Yet, that was the start of a beautiful friendship. After several more chance meetings, the trio began making play dates together. They went to the movies, played pool, or just went out for a drink. Jack and Thomas would cuddle together, barely taking their hands off each other. One or the other would flirt with Malcolm, and Malcolm would laugh and still politely decline. Jack and Thomas had been a shoulder to cry on when Malcolm went through a series of dreadful, dreary, and dramatic-ending romantic relationships. There was Hank, who thought Malcolm wasn’t aggressive enough in bed, Mark, who thought Malcolm was too nice, and then Frank, who wanted to have anal sex without a condom, which Malcolm continually refused. Every single one of those relationships finished with Malcolm being completely flummoxed. He hadn’t seen the end coming at all. Jack and Thomas had, but they hadn’t wanted to say anything— Malcolm was always so happy.
